Complete Warre Hive With Windows:

-Choose the number of window and regular hive boxes in the options below. We recommend a minimum of 3 boxes if you intend to get honey out of the hive, 4-5 for strong colonies. We recommend that you select at least 1 regular box for use in the upper position during the winter months as the regular box has a little higher insulation value.
-Assembled hives come completely assembled. Box handles and floor feet boards are removed however for shipping (requires #2 robertson (square) screwdriver).
-Unassembled hives come complete with all required parts and screws. We even include the wood glue (excluding the winter season as the glue cannot freeze). Assembly instruction are available on our website. A paper copy is not provide unless requested as we try to stay green wherever possible.
For 2019 we have redesigned our window boxes based on research and feedback. Windows are great for beekeepers to keep tabs on the progress of a colony, but bees are not a big fan. Bees as a general rule do not like plastic (window material), they do not like any light getting in the hive (gaps around shutter doors) and the reduced insulation value because of the window is not helpful in winter. For these reasons we have reduced the size of the window and changed the shutter to an over lapping flange style to reduce light penetration into the hive and provide a better weather seal. The shutter handle has been replaced by 2 finger holes and the shutter latch has been made thinner. The lower profile makes it easier to wrap the hive for winter (once box handles are removed). Lastly, assembly is a little easier and the boxes are stronger. We hope you like the changes as much as we do!

-Interior walls are left rough to promote propolising. Studies have shown this to improve hive health. It is also easier for the bees to climb.
-Optional hive boxes with window include a removable door that hides a 1/8" plexiglass window. Window boxes are recommended for beginner bee keepers as they allow you to regularly inspect the hive without taking it apart and disturbing the bees.

-Heavy duty 2x6 pine legs and 2x4 rot resistance cedar feet elevates the hive and eliminates the stability issues associated with Warre's original design. This is especially important when your hive is 3 or more boxes high. It can prevent strong winds and animals (excluding bears) from knocking over the hive.
