This type of feeder is well regarded around the world for its ability to feed quickly while being very safe for the bees. Very little if any bees drown with this type of feeder compared to other styles on the market. Luckily this feeder is just the right size to work in a warre hive. It is places on top of the top bars with a cloth or piece of card board separating the 2. An empty box is placed around it A hole in the middle of the cloth or cardboard allow the bees to climb up into the feeder. The ribbed surface of the center cone prevent the bees from slipping into the liquid. If they do slip however, the surrounding inner cover (upside down cup) keeps them close to the cone and they can generally climb back out.
While we advise that you leave honey on the hive for the bees to overwinter, there are many situations were a colony can end up short on stores at the end of a season and in these cases, it is necessary to feed. We suggest that you feed honey if you know where the honey came from ( disease free hives). If this is not an option for you then sugar syrup made from GMO free granulated sugar is the next best option.
